A long stay at a motorhome aire: how it works at Milucar

A long stay at a motorhome aire like Milucar works just like a short one, but with advantages: the aire is open 365 days a year, the base rate includes the pitch, two people, two pets, Wi-Fi, toilets and the waste disposal point, and electricity is paid by consumption on a meter. In low season, which is all year except Easter (Semana Santa) and summer, there's a per-night discount from 30 nights. When you book in advance, the minimum stay is two nights and the maximum is as long as you like.

We explain how to book a stay of weeks or months at Milucar, what's included in the rate and what costs extra, which pitch to choose and what day-to-day life is like in Torrox-Costa when you're not just passing through.

How a long stay at the motorhome aire works

Milucar is a motorhome aire, not a campsite: it's designed for motorhomes and caravans, and doesn't accept tents or trailer tents. That keeps it quiet and tidy, which you'll appreciate when you spend the whole winter here.

For a long stay, this is how it works:

  1. Booking. You can book through the bookings page on the website, by email, by WhatsApp or by phone. Online and email bookings must be made at least three days before arrival, and they're confirmed once Milucar has confirmed them in writing and received the deposit.
  2. Pitch preference. You can ask for a particular pitch. Milucar tries to honour it but can't guarantee it: for long stays in the front row, the sooner you book, the better.
  3. Arrival. At check-in a valid ID card or passport is scanned, as required by law, and you say whether you'll be using electricity.
  4. Extending your stay. If you're enjoying it and want to stay longer, you can, as long as your pitch isn't booked by someone else.
  5. Departure. Before 11:00, settling any outstanding balance at reception.

What's included in the rate and what costs extra

You'll find the exact prices under rates, with the difference between low and high season and the discount from 30 nights in low season. This is how it's structured:

Included in the base ratePaid separately
The pitch for one motorhome or caravanElectricity: per day for stays of up to 2 nights; for longer stays, all of it by metered consumption
2 peopleExtra person aged 4 and over (under-4s free)
2 petsHot water in the showers (€1 in coins)
Fast Wi-FiWashing machine and dryer
Toilets and washing-up sinksExtra parking for a trailer or motorbike
Service point for emptying grey water and the chemical toilet and filling up with waterShopping service with delivery to your pitch

If you're self-sufficient and don't need electricity, you only pay the base rate. For anyone spending months here, the meter is the fairest way: you pay for what you use, no more and no less.

Which pitch to choose for several months

All pitches are gravel and the access lanes are wide, so manoeuvring is easy. There are three types:

PitchApprox. sizeWater and drainWho it suits
Standard5.5 × 9 m (about 50 m²)Shared taps and service pointMost motorhomes
XL6 × 12 mDrain and water shared between two pitchesVehicles up to around 12 m
Balcony (front row)Depends on locationDrain and water on the pitch itselfThose who want views and day-to-day comfort

For a long stay, pitches with their own or shared drain and water save you trips to the service point every few days. Electricity is 16 A and 220 V with a CEE plug; bring your own cable, as the hook-up box can be up to 15 metres from the pitch.

Day-to-day life on a long stay

What sets living at an aire for a few weeks apart from spending a weekend is routine. At Milucar and around it, that's all taken care of:

  • Shopping. There's a small supermarket 400 metres away and big supermarkets less than 2 km away. If you don't want to carry bags, the shopping service brings your food to your pitch, for a fee. Reception stocks a few basics.
  • Laundry. Large-capacity professional washing machine and dryer, and sinks for hand washing.
  • Remote working. Fast Wi-Fi is included in the rate, and there are picnic areas with tables as well as your own awning.
  • Beach and promenade. The sea is less than 100 metres away and the centre of Torrox-Costa about 2 km along a flat seafront promenade.
  • Dogs. Next to the Torrox lighthouse is the dog beach, where they can run off the lead and swim.
  • Transport. The bus stops right outside, on the coast road, and ALSA coaches leave from Torrox-Costa bus station for Málaga and Granada.
  • Information. Reception is open every day and it's the place to ask about routes, villages and what's going on in the area.

Visits from family and friends

Visitors are welcome, but you need to let reception know beforehand, and anyone staying overnight must register. If your family comes to see you and doesn't have a motorhome, Milucar also rents out a motorhome and an apartment: you'll find them under home without wheels.

Weekend trips

With several weeks ahead of you, there's time to get to know the area at your own pace: Torrox village, Nerja, Frigiliana, Cómpeta and Málaga are all less than an hour away. Rules worth knowing if you're staying for months

They're simple rules, but on a long stay it's best to be clear about them from day one:

  • Maximum 6 people and 2 pets per pitch. Not all dog breeds are allowed; the conditions are in the terms on the website.
  • Pets must always be on a lead and aren't allowed in the toilet block or reception.
  • Electric barbecues only: charcoal barbecues and open fires are not allowed.
  • Appliances such as fridges, freezers, washing machines or air conditioners may not be set up outside the motorhome.
  • Washing lines, windbreaks, flags or screens only with Milucar's permission.
  • Bikes and scooters are kept on your own pitch.
  • The vehicle gate closes at 20:00; the pedestrian gate opens with a code.
  • Quiet hours are from 23:00 to 8:00, with no noise and no vehicle movements.

The site is fenced, with a barrier, cameras and night lighting, and the owners live in Torrox-Costa: Marcelle and Martijn opened the aire in 2017 and are there day to day.

Paperwork and length-of-stay limits

With an ID card or passport from an EU country, for stays of up to three months a valid document is enough, with no registration, according to the administracion.gob.es portal. If you're going to live in Spain for more than three months, there's the EU citizen registration certificate; check with the Policía Nacional whether it applies to you. If you're from outside the EU, including British citizens, the general limit is 90 days in any 180-day period in the Schengen area. Check it with the European Commission's official calculator before you fix your dates.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a long-stay discount at Milucar?

Yes. In low season, which is all year except Easter (Semana Santa) and summer, there's a per-night discount from 30 nights. The amounts are on the rates page.

How is electricity paid for on a long stay?

By consumption, on a meter: if you stay more than two nights, all electricity is charged by the kWh you use. Only for stays of up to two nights is it charged per day. If you don't need electricity, you don't have to take it.

Can I book a particular pitch for the whole winter?

You can state your preference when booking and Milucar will try to honour it, though it can't be guaranteed. For long stays in the front row, it's best to book well in advance.

Can I have visitors during my stay?

Yes, if you let reception know first. Anyone staying overnight has to register. For family members without a motorhome, there's the option of renting the apartment or the motorhome from “home without wheels”.

Can I extend my stay once I'm at the aire?

Yes, as long as your pitch isn't booked for those dates. Ask at reception with a bit of notice, especially if Easter (Semana Santa) or summer is approaching.
