If you're looking for a motorhome aire in Nerja, the option within the municipality is Camping Nerja, in Maro, about 5 km from the centre. As a motorhome aire in the strict sense, the closest is Milucar, in Torrox-Costa, about 8 km from the Balcón de Europa, with a bus to Nerja right outside the gate. A little further away, towards Málaga and towards the Costa Tropical, there's an aire in the port of Caleta de Vélez and several campsites by the sea.
Here's what we know, checked against official sources and from the experience of people who live ten minutes from Nerja: where to stay overnight with your motorhome, how to get around and see the town without battling for a parking space, and which rules are worth bearing in mind.
Is there a motorhome aire in the centre of Nerja?
We haven't found any registered overnight aire within the town of Nerja on the official websites. Legal aires in Andalusia have a number in the Andalusian Tourism Register and appear on the official portal andalucia.org; in the municipality of Nerja, the only listing for motorhomes is the campsite in Maro.
In Nerja, as anywhere else, you can park your motorhome like any other vehicle, as long as you don’t camp. The DGT (Spanish traffic authority) instruction on motorhomes sets three conditions: the vehicle only touches the ground with its wheels, takes up no more space than when closed (no awning, chairs or tables) and doesn't discharge liquids or make noise outside. At the same time, each town council can regulate where you park, so keep an eye on the signs in each street or car park. And in summer, Nerja town centre is very short of space even for a car.

Milucar, in Torrox-Costa
Our aire is at Avenida del Peñoncillo 61, next to the N-340, on the stretch between Torrox-Costa and Nerja. The beach is less than 100 metres away and we're open 365 days a year. It's a motorhome aire, not a campsite: there's no pool or restaurant, but there is everything you need to be comfortable for a few days or a few months.

- Pitches of around 50 m², XL pitches for motorhomes up to about 12 m and front-row “Balcón” pitches with their own water supply and drain.
- 16 A electric hook-up with CEE socket and meter, service point for emptying and filling, Wi-Fi included.
- Showers and toilets in several spots, professional washing machine and dryer, sinks and picnic areas.
- Fenced site with barrier, cameras and night lighting, and pets welcome (maximum two per pitch).
If you're travelling with a dog, next to the Torrox lighthouse there's the dog beach, where dogs can run off the lead and swim. More in our guide to Torrox's beaches, including the dog beach.
Camping Cerro Gordo, in La Herradura
Now on the Costa Tropical, on the Paseo Marítimo Andrés Segovia in La Herradura (Almuñécar), next to the Acantilados de Maro-Cerro Gordo nature area. Its official listing (CM/GR/00044) states that the entrance is 25 metres from the beach, that it is open all year and that it has shaded areas, a laundry, a bar and sinks at most pitches.

Ipark Autocaravanas Caleta de Vélez
Heading towards Málaga, the port of Caleta de Vélez has an aire belonging to the Andalusian Network of Motorhome Areas run by the Public Ports Agency of Andalusia. According to the aire's listing, it has 33 spaces (almost all for vehicles up to 8 m), is open 24 hours, includes water, emptying, showers and WC, and offers optional electricity. You pay by card and book by the day.
Camping Don Cactus, in Carchuna
Further east, on the N-340, km 343 (Motril), next to the beach. Its official listing mentions year-round opening, a motorhome service point, a swimming pool, a restaurant and a supermarket, and special rates for long stays from September to June.
Aire or campsite: which suits you best around Nerja
- If you're travelling with just the motorhome and what you want is beach, facilities and good connections, an aire is usually simpler: you arrive, park up and use the service point, no fuss.
- If you're travelling with children or in summer, a campsite with a pool and entertainment may be worth it, although pitches tend to be more uneven on these hillsides.
- If you're coming to spend the winter, look at the electricity (you use more in winter), the laundry and long-stay discounts.
- If your motorhome is large, ask about the maximum length first: at the port aire in Caleta de Vélez almost all spaces are for vehicles up to 8 m, and at Milucar there are XL pitches for about 12 m.
How to visit Nerja without moving your motorhome
The easiest thing is not to drive into the centre with your motorhome. The streets near the Balcón de Europa are narrow and the car parks fill up early. These are the alternatives our guests use:
- Bus. From Milucar, the bus stops right outside on the coast road, and you're in Nerja in a few minutes.
- Bike. It's about 8 km along the coast. Watch out for traffic on the N-340 and for the hills on the way into Nerja.
- Car or motorbike. If you're travelling with a second vehicle, Milucar has extra parking for a trailer or motorbike (for a fee).
